Helga The Surfbus

-Helga is going to run on waste vegetable oil as her OM314 engine is well suited for that. I have not decided if it is going to be a 1 or 2-tank system. I have a good supplier of waste vegetable oil and equipment for filtering it.

-The existing sun roof with its 70s "dirt-orange" cover will be changed to this one that can be opened up to 50 degrees and has a mosquito net and shading curtain. I will also install a second similar one in the middle section just at the kitchen unit is so it is possible to stand straight there while cooking or getting in and out of the wetsuit.

-A 2kW air heater similar to Webasto has been bought and will replace the old antique Eberspacher X1 that is very noisy and consumes to much current. I am going to install the new one under one of the sofas in the rear area. The old Eber is located in a box under the vehicle. I will remove the box and move the spare wheel there. Today the spare wheel hangs on the left rear door and makes the vehicle longer than 6m. While looking cool it is not very practical as >6m makes the ferry tickets much pricier..

-I have bought five roof rack carriers that will take all of the bulky windsurfing stuff like boards, sails, booms and masts. I think I will need a roofbox to keep the sails and masts in place. Thinking of building one in plywood and place the solar panels on top of it so the panels don´t steal too much roof surface.

-The 50W solar panel that I removed from my old bus will be accompanied by a 100W panel and will also get a new more efficient MPPT-controller (Maximum Power Point Tracker) instead of the old one that had PWM (Pulse Widh Modulation.) These will charge two 75Ah marine batteries that supplies juice for lighting, water pumps, fridge and charges all IT-stuff. With 150W and also charging from the generator I should never have to worry about having to little juice in the batteries.

-I have removed the old 12V/230V fridge that could only be cooled while driving or had to be hooked up to a land line. I changed it to a proper 40L 12V compressor fridge from my old bus.The removed fridge gets a new life up in my mountain cabin wher it fits perfectly under the sink.

-I removed the old stainless sink and gas cooker unit and replaced it with a dark coloured laminate countertop and "embedded" in it a Smev sink. I like the look of it when the dark glasslid is folded down and one gets a flat black surface where portable speakers and othe stuff can be placed when not cooking.

-The only way to "stove away" the table in the back is to lay it between the sofas (bed mode). I don´t like this arrangement. It takes up to much space in table mode so the whole space in the back feels crammed. I think I will get one of these instead. As it is possible to fold it can be stored at the floor level.

-Finally I need to PIMP the interiour!! I have made new curtains for the rear door windows but the sofas need a new more interesting fabric. Here I would happily recieve some suggestions from anyone with some taste in design! Send me an email!
